Will Richmond | Managing Editor Communities & R.I. [@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at [The Providence Journal]( and this is the Daily Briefing. East Providence's Crescent Park is a lesson in perseverance. Once the home to an amusement park, the 11-acre park referred as the "Gem of the City" has served as green space since the amusement park's closure in 1977 despite the occasional idea to develop portions of the land. And once again there is a plan afoot to bring more development to the park. It may not be for houses, like once was proposed, but East Providence Mayor Roberto DaSilva has ideas for a restaurant and large scale tent for hosting events. Not everyone is happy about the idea. [Crescent Park's century-old Looff carousel. Its rescue from demolition in the late 1970s also led to the preservation of green space at the park._08182024] Crescent Park's century-old Looff carousel. And now as Khang gears up for the FM Championship Thursday at TPC Boston it will be a homecoming of sorts. [The Journal's Bill Koch talked to Khang about how her start as a Button Hole kid got her into the game of golf.]( ⢠From Tidewater Landing to housing to schools there's a lot happening in Pawtucket. But where do the candidates for mayor stand on the issues? [Here's what The Journal's Antonia Farzan found out.]( ⢠In his laboratory at the University of Rhode Island's East Farm, Alan Gettman, mosquito abatement coordinator for the DEM, has seen first-hand that it's not a normal year for mosquitoes and with the risk of EEE and West Nile Virus high in Rhode Island right now the state is urging people to take precautions.
