[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at [The Providence Journal]( and this is the Daily Briefing. On Tuesday night after receiving word earlier in the day that [Warwick schools would be holding early dismissal for students ahead of the solar eclipse]( that afternoon we told our 9-year-old son the news. Of course what kid isn't excited to learn they get to leave school early? But soon after we could see his mind in gear. It wasn't long after he went to bed he came back downstairs with questions in mind. Is it going to be cold? How dark is it going to be? Will I be able to see it? What will it look like? Along with the excitement, a sense of nervousness tinged his voice. We answered his questions, showed him some videos from the last eclipse in 2017 and sent him back to bed. First thing the next morning was a reminder to get eclipse glasses. We're stocked up and ready to go and if you aren't don't worry there's still time before the eclipse begins around 2:15 p.m. and reaches maximum coverage in Rhode Island at approximately 3:29 p.m. If your kids have questions about the eclipse, don't worry, [this guide will help you answer those questions](. And if you want to know the exact moment to expect maximum coverage, [our zip code viewing guide will have you covered.]( Once you know when to expect it, [you can join a viewing party or use these fun facts to wow your friends and family.]( [01_Eclipse_04042024.JPG] (Front row L to R) Mel Rusnov, Sherry Marshall and Priscilla Green (Back row L to R) Bill Marshall, Jim Fitzpatrick, and Ted Green. Rusnov and Fitzpatrick of Westerly are heading to Cleveland, OH, the Marshalls of Tiverton are viewing in Burlington, VT and the Greens of Wickford are heading to Quebec to see the solar eclipse. Rhode Islanders traveling to see the eclipse. Kris Craig/The Providence Journal If you need glasses to observe the eclipse you may find yourself scrambling a bit, but [these options may be worth a call before running out.]( If you're reading this at home or work, it's probably too late to travel to a spot in the path of totality â unless you feel like racing up to Vermont or Maineâ but [these Rhode Islanders have already hit the road and are looking forward to the experience.]( If for some reason you can't get outside this afternoon, don't worry. We'll have coverage of the eclipse so you won't be left in the dark.
