I’m a native of northwestern North Carolina who's spent forty years of my career working in local journalism, and I'm also the Democrat running for Congress to unseat Virginia Foxx. (You may remember her from when she screamed at a reporter to shut up last year. As a former journalist myself, I took that one personally.) These mountains have been my home all my life. I've spent most of my adult life working at the local paper my granddaddy built, and I always put my community first—and that's exactly why I decided to take a leap and run for this seat. I’m proud to say that I never once let my political beliefs influence my reporting. In Congress, I’ll take that same mindset, rejecting political theater and focusing on what’s important—improving the lives of the folks back home. But I’m also running because my opponent, Virginia Foxx, is one of the most dangerous Republicans you may have never heard of. She’s an ultra-conservative Trump loyalist whose MAGA agenda is too extreme for North Carolina. As Chairwoman of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, she's been the Republican Party's main architect for dismantling public education and workers’ protections as we know it. I've watched her rise to power with a journalist's eye, and I've never once seen her put people before politics, or even before her own ambition. {NAME}, I refuse to sit back and watch any longer as Virginia Foxx and Republicans in Congress ignore the needs of our neighbors, only focusing on their extremist social legislation and anti-worker policies. That’s not the North Carolina way, and we have a duty to stand up and fight it—and to stand up and fight for rural voters.
