One is to look for companies that are suddenly and dramatically pushed down to extreme levels. This type of emotional overreaction can lead to some snap-back big winners. The problem with those is that you have to be on the news pretty often, otherwise you’ll miss the quick rebound. The other problem is that you’ll most likely be dealing with companies you’ve never heard of. And that can be scary, especially if the stock initially goes against us. What is this company anyway? Is it going to zero? Another way to trade Deep Value is to take a big name that you’ve heard of…and wait. It’s the way Warren Buffett does it. And this happened a few years ago on Aflac (AFL). Everyone knows Aflac and we know it does insurance. But, in 2020, this boring company was punished as everything else was being punished. And once it got below its lower Bollinger Band™, it could've been a low-anxiety buy around $29 on 3/24/20. Then all we had to do was wait. Did it work? You can see the result. [] On 11/24/20, it hit “fair value” at $46. That’s a 58% win on a stock that is going to be around for a long time. Which is a pretty easy way to catch big winners.
