And sometimes huge stock moves come from companies we never think about. Xylem (XYL) is one of those stocks. XYL makes water equipment and provides services for the water industry. Sorry, I just yawned. But this stock has been rising lately and could be ready for a big breakout. Here’s the chart: [] It’s had a tremendous 3-month run and is in a top 40 sector. A break above $114.89 could lead to an exciting run for a boring company. We’ll keep it on our radar. Happy trading, — Scott Welsh P.S. In a move that seems like a blend of historical nostalgia and political poker, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stirred the pot (yet again) with a decree that's got everyone from Alaska to Armenia doing a double-take. Putin's decree, which could be from a lost season of 'Game of Thrones,' involves searching, registering, and legally protecting Russian property abroad — think of it as an extreme version of 'finders keepers.' And when we say extreme, we mean extreme: He’s talking about ‘protecting’ these so-called properties, which apparently include everything from the sunny shores of Alaska to the cozy climes of Scandinavia. That's quite the shopping list, Vlad! And here's the kicker: some ultranationalist bloggers are taking this as a cue for a geopolitical shopping spree, suggesting that maybe, just maybe, it's time to revisit the good old days of the Russian Empire. The decree directs Russia's Foreign Ministry to embark on this historical treasure hunt, and it's as ambitious as it sounds. Now, before you start wondering if Alaska's going to sport a new flag, the Institute for the Study of War is quick to label these ambitions as 'implausible.' But it's not stopping the blogosphere from dreaming big. Russian keyboard warriors are not just stopping at Alaska; their wish list includes a hefty chunk of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and even parts of Scandinavia. It's like Putin's playing a game of Civilization on a world map, but with a serious nostalgia twist. The decree seems to pine for the good ol’ days of the Cold War as it eyes properties in former Warsaw Pact countries. As for the 1867 sale of Alaska to the U.S., Putin's recent saber-rattling has been a bit of a surprise. He had previously called the sale of Alaska "inexpensive", advising Russians not to get too worked up about it. But some of his pals hint that Moscow might want to chat about that centuries-old receipt. Makes you wonder if there's a return policy on historic land deals. With speculation about a new round of mass mobilization after Russia’s March elections, one thing's clear: Russia's not dialing down its ambitions in Ukraine or elsewhere. As Kyiv braces for more, and the rest of us are left scratching our heads over whether a nuclear-armed Russia has finally lost it. It seems that in the world of international politics, there's always room for a little nostalgia — no matter how implausible it might be. — The Prosperity Pub Team [] [] [] ___________________________________________________ [] [] JAN 23, 2024 [] [] SCOTT WELSH'S TICKER TALES Not Watered Down (XYL) Sometimes great ideas can come from boring places.
