The private company overseeing the GOP-sponsored ballot review of 2020 presidential ballots in Arizona released last week that they've collected more than $5.7 million in private donations to support their work.
It's been clear since the beginning that the sham audit is largely being funded by prominent allies of former president Donald Trump, and these newly released numbers speak for themselves. More than 97 percent of the audit's costs have so far been shouldered by donations from pro-Trump organizations led by figures who have touted the false claim that the election was stolen.
This is only just the beginning -- GOP leaders in battleground states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are following Arizona's lead and pushing for bogus audits in their own states. Many Trump supporters have flocked to Arizona to witness the fraudulent audit in person. And in DC, extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene continue to echo these baseless claims and lies.
Republicans are working around the clock to spread Trump's big lie and shake the foundation of our democracy, but we can stop them.
The Big Lie isn't going anywhere as long as Republicans are in office, and we cannot allow their dangerous attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election further erode trust in our democratic institutions.
