{NAME} -- In the aftermath of the 2020 election, the Republican Party has decided to embrace the Big Lie that Donald Trump actually beat President Biden and the results of the election were fraudulent. Now, these Republicans are trying to put themselves in a position to actually overturn elections -- by running for positions that have the power to do just that. Republicans who support the Big Lie are running for Secretary of State in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and Michigan in 2022. Secretaries of State are the chief elections officials in their states. If they're elected, they will have powerful platforms to lend legitimacy to conspiracy theories and influence the local officials that conduct vote counts. We've already seen the chaos that an ambitious, politically-motivated Secretary of State can have in recent years. In 2018, then-Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp oversaw a series of measures aimed to suppress the vote in his own campaign for governor against Stacey Abrams. With the slim margins he eventually claimed victory by, it's fair to say he was successful in stealing the election. This is a direct threat to the very foundations of our democracy. With this level of control, 2022 might be the first year that free and fair elections are in doubt across the United States. This group of potential lawmakers is beyond dangerous. Democrats have pulled off tough victories before, and we need to take these campaigns seriously today to prevent them from gaining a foothold in our political system. [In 2022, we're doing the work to elect progressive Democrats who will uphold the rule of law and work to better the lives of the American people. We're only $287 short of our fundraising goal, and every dollar counts in the fight against baseless election conspiracy theories.
