{NAME} -- The Republicans did their best to cheat their way to victory in 2020 -- from sabotaging mail-in ballots to trying to disqualify Black votes in Detroit and even attempting to overturn the election in Congress. But they've learned their lesson now, and not in a good way. The Brennan Center for Justice finds that state legislative bills to restrict voting rights have tripled this year. There are as many as 14 new restrictions on the table in hard-fought Pennsylvania, and almost a dozen in Georgia. Justice correspondent for The Nation Elie Mystal points out that Republicans don't even need to make up much ground to win -- our margins last year were razor-thin. President Biden only won by a combined 43,000 votes across three states. And they know that if they can even slightly restrict access to the ballot box, they can tilt the scales decisively in their favor. Put another way, passing even ONE of these voter suppression bills could make Trump president in 2024. “Voter suppression is an attack on our democracy that is happening right now, in broad daylight, and it's being carried out by the same forces of white supremacy that stormed the Capitol,” Mystal warns. “And like the Capitol insurrectionists, the voter suppressionists must be met and defeated.” We are more than prepared to meet the GOP's disgusting efforts with overwhelming force -- organizing our way to victory in every single state. We'll bring back the energy that led to overwhelming wins in the House in 2018 and Georgia and Arizona in 2020. We'll show them that trying to keep voters from the ballot box only motivates them more. But we need a solid fundraising foundation to be able to meet their high-dollar dark money reserves. And right now, we're running more than $50,000 behind where we need to be for February. We need at least 2,000 new members in the next two weeks to avoid cutting back on our campaign recruitment and messaging efforts.
