I imported handmade copper and ceramic kitchen and bath sinks from India. The margins were so incredible that I ordered a container load of them. It cost me about $1,500 to have that container shipped here from Mumbai. I'm no longer importing sinks. But if I were, getting that same container here last year would have set me back more than $20,000. Prices have eased a bit since then, but shipping a container from Asia to the U.S. still costs $14,000. Long-term contract rates between shippers and carriers are 200% higher than they were last year. That means we're going to see higher shipping costs for years. And shipping companies are laughing all the way to [the bank](. I'll reveal one of the best shippers operating today in a moment. First, let's see how shipping got to be so expensive... And not even when I said they had "a shot at big money" with Advanced Micro Devices back in 2008. If you've been sitting on the sidelines waiting for a chance to turn a small stake into a transformative payday... [THIS could be it.]( Don't hesitate. With every passing moment, the [extraordinary profit potential]( could shrink. [>> You need to SEE THIS NOW <<]( Container Shipping, Explained It all comes back to [the global supply chain crisis](. At the beginning of the pandemic, a lot of factories in China and other parts of Asia shut down. That disrupted the supplies of many staple goods, clothing, electronics and cars. In addition, ports around the world were hit by [worker shortages](. COVID-19 outbreaks forced ports to slow or completely shut down. That meant it took longer to load and unload containers. Ships from Asia waited more than a month for open berths at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Last October, there were 100 container ships [waiting to be unloaded]( at those ports, compared with an average of 17 before the pandemic. These long waits resulted in even more [disruptions along the supply chain](. And empty containers, which needed to return to Asia, were piling up in North American ports. Today, shippers are starting to see container availability improve. A few months ago, there were more than 90,000 empty containers at the Port of Los Angeles. As of February, that number had dropped to 64,000. And ships aren't waiting as long to be unloaded now. The average wait is down to 18 days and should continue to drop throughout the year. In addition, shippers expect container supply to meet demand this year. During 2021, the shipping industry benchmark - the Dow Jones U.S. Marine Transportation Index - underperformed the rest of the market. It even underperformed the Russell 1000 Index for most of the year. But since hitting a low last September, the marine index has been on the upswing. [Chart - Marine Transportation Index vs Russell 1000]( Over the last week, the marine transportation index has declined by about 5%. That makes [it a great time to buy shares]( of shipping companies. One of my favorites is a Greece-based company that is a leading maritime freight specialist. And it has plenty of upside ahead...
