[While 31 nations looked away](
Nov. 9, 2018
Hugh Baver, a former minor league baseball player who lives in New Hampshire, went on a trip to the Dominican Republic to donate a historic artifact to the country. While he was there, he learned about the Ãvian Conference convened in France by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in July 1938, a meeting of 32 nations where only one country â the Dominican Republic â agreed to help settle German Jewish refugees. It's something few people know about. [But he's trying to change that.](
Also, humans may be interrupting the natural process of regeneration in El Yunque National Forest in eastern Puerto Rico. Climate change is expected to make big storms more intense, and [itâs unclear how forests like El Yunque will react.](
And it might come as a surprise to some that[Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara.](He came from a Parsi family that had roots in India and he was a Zoroastrian by faith.

A New Hampshire man stumbled on an overlooked moment of history: The forgotten Evian conference where only one of 32 countries â the Dominican Republic â agreed to help settle German Jewish refugees. The doomed Evian Conference is viewed as a beginning act of the Holocaust.

Tropical forests like El Yunque have evolved to recover from hurricanes. But if those storms grow more intense or frequent, forests may be less able to bounce back. And that could hurt communities that depend on the forest for water.

The order, which goes into effect on Saturday, means that migrants will have to present themselves at US ports of entry to qualify for asylum. Like the travel ban, it will likely be quickly challenged in court.
