[While 31 nations looked away]( Nov. 9, 2018 Hugh Baver, a former minor league baseball player who lives in New Hampshire, went on a trip to the Dominican Republic to donate a historic artifact to the country. While he was there, he learned about the Évian Conference convened in France by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in July 1938, a meeting of 32 nations where only one country — the Dominican Republic — agreed to help settle German Jewish refugees. It's something few people know about. [But he's trying to change that.]( Also, humans may be interrupting the natural process of regeneration in El Yunque National Forest in eastern Puerto Rico.
