May 11, 2018 Pregnancy is always popping up in science fiction, like "Children of Men" or "Alien," where pregnant women need saving, or worse, unwanted pregnancies are forced upon them — but now there are are some [new works of fiction that portray pregnant women as unambiguous heroes, battling dystopian conditions]( to protect themselves and their babies. President Donald Trump announced the decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal on May 8 — just weeks before he's set to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore. Pulling out of a nuclear accord with one nation is probably not a great move when you’re trying to negotiate a new nuclear deal with another. Or maybe it’s just what Kim Jong-un wants. [Deal or no deal, America’s diplomatic partners are watching.]( At her Senate confirmation hearing Wednesday to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, [Gina Haspel promised her “moral compass is strong”]( and that she would not allow the CIA to undertake activity “that I thought was immoral, even if it was technically legal.” But when asked whether she viewed as immoral the “enhanced interrogation” techniques like waterboarding — which are widely viewed as torture — that took place under her supervision at a CIA “black site” in 2002, Haspel repeatedly dodged the question. — Peter Majerle, The Scan editor [No Images?
