Can AI make you dinner? Every Saturday, The Smartest Coach in the Room delivers helpful takeaways on the hottest nutrition and health topics and the world’s most effective coaching techniques. (Did some amazing friend forward this to you? [Subscribe here]( “Siri, make me dinner.” [A robot serving dinner and saying, "Come and get it."] Okay, we’re not quite there yet. But without actually flipping the omelet themselves, AI tools like [ChatGPT]( might indeed make it easier for you—and your clients—to meal plan and cook dinner. When we poll our clients, struggles with food planning and cooking skills are among the most common challenges they deal with. (In case you’re curious: Emotional / stress eating takes the top spot.) So, in today’s newsletter, we’ll walk you through a neat little tutorial on how to use ChatGPT to help you make use of the contents of your fridge. What are we working with here? First, take a look at what you’ve got, fridge- and pantry-wise. Open up the ChatGPT chat box and type in your inventory: [An image of a ChatGPT prompt asking, "Can you help me make dinner with the ingredients I have? I have kimchi, eggs, a tomato, some baby carrots, and cheese in the fridge, and I also have a good selection of spices and basic pantry items.] Wait literally seconds and: [An image of ChatGPT's response to a prompt asking what to make for dinner using the ingredients listed.] You get a recipe with clear directions—and it sounds pretty delicious too. If the result suits you, stop there. But you can also iterate. For example: [An image of a ChatGPT prompt asking, "Can you give me some ideas on how to increase the protein in this recipe?] You might get some answers you’d expect, but often ChatGPT (with the knowledge of the WHOLE INTERNET🤯) comes up with ideas you might not have thought of… [An image of ChatGPT's response to a prompt asking for ideas on how to increase the protein in a specific recipe.] Whatever answer you get, you can refine it. You might say: 🙋🏿 ♂️ Actually, my vegan friend just told me she’s coming over. Can you make the above recipe plant-based? Or: 🙋🏼 ♀️ I’m also feeding a toddler. Could you tell me how to make this meal so there’s also a non-spicy version? Or: 🙋🏻 I only have 10 minutes to make this dinner. Any shortcuts I can take? Or: 🙋🏽 ♀️ I’m tracking my macros. Can you give me the nutritional breakdown for this meal? (Note: If you’re trying to stick to a specific macros allotment, don’t rely on ChatGPT for accuracy. It’s better as a “ballpark” tool.) The right tools can help people make progress. Staring at a nearly-empty fridge with random ingredients, many clients might be tempted to say, “Screw it” and order pizza. And we love pizza, but with the above AI-generated advice, your client’s now gained an opportunity to: ▶ Make a home-cooked meal, instead of ordering takeout ▶ Develop cooking skills ▶ Learn more about nutrition ▶ Get a bunch of questions answered that they might otherwise bug you with at 6 p.m. when you’re trying to make your own dinner While AI will never replace the warm support and encouragement of another human being, it can fill in a lot of the annoying little administrative tasks in a coach’s life. Your clients get more help, and you get more time where you don’t have to be “on.” You’ll show up to your live sessions feeling more present, energized, and better able to do all the stuff a robot can’t do. If you can’t tell, we’re nutrition coaching nerds. You won’t find any other company that loves this stuff more than we do. If that sounds like “your people,” consider our [Level 1 Nutrition Coaching Certification](.
