So when President Biden recently announced his proposal for Supreme Court reform, it was a big win for our movement â because his ideas mirror the progressive legislation Pramila and others have been working on. [Pitch in to support our movement! â¡ï¸]( Most Americans donât know that the Supreme Court is the only court in the land that does not hold its members accountable to an enforceable code of ethics. And we can see very clearly what thatâs led to: a situation where sitting Supreme Court Justices can accept thousands in âgiftsâ (aka BRIBES) from billionaires with business before the Court. And then they feel like nothing will happen if they âforgetâ to report them on their financial disclosures! But the presidentâs proposal isnât just about a code of ethics. It also includes 18 year term limits for each justice, ensuring each president would be able to appoint a justice every 2 years, and a constitutional amendment to overturn the Courtâs ridiculous decision that presidents are somehow above the law. This is something three quarters of Americans agree on, including a majority of Republicans and a supermajority of independents. But Mike Johnson has already made it clear his party will oppose this legislation in the House, meaning weâll need to flip the chamber back to blue if we want to get it passed.
