Dear {NAME}, This week I've been thinking about and exploring the topic of creativity. 1. Food For Thought In order to manifest, we have to let go of the “ideal.” We have to do it badly and create what might seem like a poor excuse for what we hoped to create in the first place. Think about it: most great works are great because they have been through rounds of incremental improvement, feedback, and editing. A spurt of genius is rare, and yet it is still how we envision “creating;” we believe inspiration must come to us magically, as if by divine intervention. In reality, creating worthwhile things looks a lot more like a 9-5 job than an inspired work of passion. Creativity is a strength that your clients can learn to express—and we’ve got some effective tools to help them do that in our [17 Strength-Finding Exercises Pack](. 2. Inspiring Quote “The relationship between commitment and doubt is by no means an antagonistic one. Commitment is healthiest when it is not without doubt, but in spite of doubt.” ― Rollo May 3. Free Science-Based Tool Befriending Your Inner Critic. Research suggests that high levels of self-criticism can create a negative vicious circle of a decreased mood, more self-criticism, and further decreased moods (Heimpel, Wood, Marshall, & Brown, 2002). Over time, self-criticism can become a defining attribute of the relationship that clients have with themselves. You can use this tool to help them to relate to their inner “judge” in healthier ways. I read it over and over again because it helps me to write freely and non-judgmentally. With this book, Rollo May has empowered me to unchain my creative self. [[Link]( 5. A Question For Your Clients“Please describe the setting that allows you to be most creative.” Setup is everything. I write best on my mobile phone in my Evernote app, not at the office in front of my computer. There is something about the office setting that puts me in “work mode” and kills my creativity. With this question, your client can try to figure out which setting works best for them based on their not on theory or aspiration, but on their actual past behavior.
