There hasn’t been a single officer since whose professional life hasn’t been influenced in some way by the events of that chilly and deadly night in [Newhall, California](. A half-century down the road though, law enforcement is still struggling with the lessons from Newhall. While progress has been made in the years since, there are still vital lessons from that fight to embrace and incorporate into police training so that a new generation of cops are not vulnerable to the same errors and threats that cost Alleyn, Frago, Gore and Pence their lives. For the last month, many in law enforcement have been overwhelmed dealing with the unique threats and burdens imposed by the [COVID-19 crisis](. That’s understandable, and we know this focus will necessarily continue for some time to come. Yet, today, the fallen officers of Newhall demand a bit of your time and call on you to consider the more routine threats that are still very much a part of your everyday lives as law enforcement officers.
