[Facebook]([Twitter]([Instagram]( [Website](  Here's why all UK mobile phones will sound an alarm on 23 April FREESTOCKS / UNSPLASH What's happened? The UK government [will send an alert message to all 4G and 5G mobile phones]( at 3pm BST on Sunday 23 April 2023. It will be accompanied by a sound and vibration, and will occur on all devices, regardless of your network provider. Why does it matter? Don't be alarmed though (pun intended), it's a test of the UK's new Emergency Alerts system that is designed to warn people when there is an imminent risk to life. It's something that has already been implemented in other countries, such as the US and Canada, and has been used to warn phone owners in specific areas of disasters, including wildfires and flooding. What's my take? On the face of it, the Emergency Alerts system is a positive / informative use of the devices we carry around in our pockets each day. However, there are some caveats that we're not sure the UK government has fully considered. For example, some domestic abuse charities in the UK have highlighted a potential danger in forcibly sending audible alerts to every mobile phone. Some of those in abusive, coercive and/or dangerous relationships might rely on a secret handset that they can use to call for help, but they'll hardly remain secret if the device suddenly sounds a 10-second alarm. It's also not ideal if you happen to be at a funeral, wedding or just attending a church service. One possible solution is to turn the phone off entirely, but it's unclear at present whether the message and accompanying alarm will still be delivered when it's switched back on again. Hopefully, we'll get more clarity before the test date itself.  Will PlayStation Q Lite handheld be a Switch rival or something else? TCMFGAMES What's happened? Four years after Sony officially killed off its PS Vita handheld console, it is [reported to have a new portable gaming device in development](. Codenamed the PlayStation Q Lite, it is said to be coming in the summer of 2024 and have an 8-inch 1080p 60Hz LCD screen. Why does it matter? However, rather than a PS Vita 2 or Sony's answer to the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck, there are claims that the new device will not be console at all. Insider Gaming's sources reveal that it will be a Remote Play-only accessory, allowing PS5 owners to carry on the experience around the home by streaming games from their console to the portable. What's my take? If the rumoured Q Lite device is just for Remote Play as suggested then it won't do a hell of a lot more than a conventional iPhone or Android handset and joypad-style accessory. You don't have to wait until 2024 for that functionality neither. However, if it has haptic feedback and adaptive triggers too, as suggested, at least it'll give you a more-rounded PS5-style experience. We're just not sure that's enough to be that big a deal. Time will tell.  Vivo V27 review: Lower price, same great cameras POCKET-LINT What's happened? We recently spent some time with the Vivo V27 Pro, and were impressed by its performance and photographic abilities, especially considering the relatively affordable price point. The sticking point with that device though, is that it's pretty hard to get your hands on - unless you happen to live in India. Thankfully, the phone's non-Pro sibling has received a much wider release, initially launching in 25 markets globally. In addition, the Vivo V27 carries an attractive price tag of around $399 and features the same great cameras, in an almost identical chassis. So does it stand up to our testing? Our quick verdict The Vivo V27 offers top-tier photography and a lovely slim chassis at an attractive price point. While we think the Pro model offers a more well-rounded experience, the price and availability of this phone make it an appealing option.
