[Facebook]([Twitter]([Instagram]( [Website](  Apple announces WWDC 2023 - unveiling AR/VR headset, iOS 17, more? APPLE What's happened? Apple has announced its [annual Worldwide Developers Conference]( will take place between 5 June and 9 June, with the company tipped to announce plenty that should pique the interest Why does it matter? If the rumours are true, Apple will announce its first mixed reality headset, dubbed Reality Pro, during the event. We can also expect the unveiling of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 at the very least. What's my take? WWDC has always proved essential for learning about the latest software coming to Apple devices, but this year's event could be something a bit more special. The company has reportedly been working on its AR/VR headset for many years, with plenty of stop-start rumours appearing over a lengthy timespan. Indeed, many were convinced that it would finally make an appearance during last year's developers conference. That obviously didn't happen, but we're much more confident this time around. For starters, Apple executives are said to have had a trial run of the announcement recently, in a behind-closed-doors demo of the new device. And, if you look at the WWDC 2023 save-the-date imagery, it bears the appearance of light streaming through a circular lens. Hopefully this means Reality Pro - or whatever it ends up being called - will debut during the opening keynote at last. Then we can get on with saving up the $3,000 allegedly needed to buy one.  Sony PSVR2's slow start could mean some great deals soon POCKET-LINT What's happened? Anyone yet to take the plunge on the Sony PlayStation VR2 could be rewarded for waiting [by getting a price cut](. That's if the company wants to "avoid a complete disaster," according to a new report. Why does it matter? That's according to research firm IDC, which claims that, while Sony is alleged to have made two million units for launch, only 270,000 have so far found new homes in living rooms around the world. What's my take? The PlayStation VR2 is a superb bit of kit - offering pro-grade features, such as haptics and eye tracking, that make playing VR games a joy. However, there's no escaping the launch price. At $549.99 / £539.99, it's far more than a casual purchase for a PS5 owner and during an international belt-tightening squeeze, to boot. That has undoubtedly affected sales. But, if history tells us anything, it's that a premium product at a premium price often needs time to gain traction. The Nintendo Switch had a relatively inauspicious start, but is now one of the biggest selling consoles of all time. Sony itself had a similar experience with the first PlayStation VR - which was equivalently priced to its successor at launch (taking into account inflation). Its sales though were rapidly improved through, well, sales. And so we should expect the same again. Come Prime Day and/or Black Friday 2023, we could well see some discounts on PSVR2 bundles. And, by then, we'll also have some more games available to play on it. Then it could take off the way Sony wants.  A MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR Dash cams: Are they worth it? 70MAI In recent years, dash cams have become increasingly popular as drivers seek to protect themselves from potential insurance disputes, capture incidents on the road, and improve their driving skills. Over the past couple of years we've seen Sony develop its camera ranges into two, primary families: the Alpha 7 lineup - which includes high-end full-frame cameras - and the ZV models which have vloggers in mind. These models are designed for use by on-the-go content creators. But, what happens when you try to blend those two ranges into one, single camera? The answer to that is the ZV-E1 Our quick verdict Sony's flagship ZV camera combines the power and capabilities of a full-frame Alpha camera with the portability and features from its creator range to great effect.
