Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the [biggest mobile event of the year](. The show sees the launch of many of the year's top smartphones, smartwatches and tablets, as well as seeing the emergence of the hottest new trends in mobile. Why does it matter? The show is now underway and, so far, we've seen the launch of new devices from Xiaomi, Lenovo, Nokia, Honor and several other big brands. What's my take? Mobile World Congress has begun with a bang, with plenty of phones, tablets and wearables announced already. The Pocket-lint team is there in Barcelona to bring you all the latest, which includes some in-depth looks at the handsets launched by Xiaomi, Huawei and Honor. You can catch up with everything that happens on our [dedicated MWC 2023 webpage here](. There will also be some more off-the-wall concept devices announced, such as the Motorola Rizr rollable and OnePlus 11 Concept with its glowing pipes on the back of the phone. Qualcomm has confirmed that it will be connecting more smartphones in more ways thanks to the [evolution of Snapdragon Satellite](. Space is the next frontier for communication, with a number of companies looking at ways to use satellite communications in their devices and ensure that users never find themselves in a dead spot. Why does it matter? Qualcomm has confirmed that it will be working with Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, Vivo, Nothing and Motorola to produce devices that will offer satellite messaging, but we'd expect that other brands could just as easily access the technology. What's my take? As we explained in our previous newsletter last Friday, satellite communications will be a new battleground for mobile phone providers and plenty of them are signing up with Qualcomm to adopt its platform. We don't yet know whether satellite messaging and the like will end up being offered as paid extras - as with the Motorola system we discussed before - but they'll certainly aid anyone who finds themselves without a conventional mobile signal and the urgency for contact. It'll be interesting to see if the biggest brands, such as Samsung and Apple, also follow suit in the coming months.  Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro review: Smartening up POCKET-LINT What's happened? The Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro is Xiaomi's latest smartwatch to go global, landing in the UK roughly a year after it launched the Watch S1 and the S1 Active much further afield. Our quick verdict The Pro device takes the S1 and gives it an upgrade in the looks department but ultimately doesn’t do quite enough on the software side to make it a really standout smartwatch - particularly when it costs more money.
