[Facebook]([Twitter]([Instagram]( [Website](  What is Meta Verified? UNSPLASH / SANDIP KALAL What's happened? Meta has introduced a [new paid verification subscription service]( called Meta Verified. Why does it matter? It allows users on Meta's Instagram and Facebook platforms to get a blue verification badge. What's my take? You wait all year for a social media platform to offer paid-for verification and then two schemes come at once. Zuckerberg, perhaps inspired by Elon Musk's erratic dance through Twitter's verification policy, now seems to be following suit. You can pay Meta to verify you, rather than the platform having its own protections against bogus users. It's another revenue stream for the social network, purportedly providing a way to guarantee that you are who or what you say you are. You'll get impersonation protections as part of the scheme, but I can't help feeling that with all the data that Meta gathers, it should already know who is authentic and who isn't. Will the real Mark Zuckerberg please stand up?  WhatsApp upgrades iPhone video calls with picture-in-picture mode for seamless chatting POCKET-LINT What's happened? A WhatsApp iPhone app update has added support for [picture-in-picture (PiP) video calls]( for the first time, among other things. Why does it matter? Switching away from the WhatsApp app would previously cause the call to pause. But, with the new update installed that is no longer the case. What's my take? WhatsApp seems to be worming its way into all aspects of life - but PiP support might actually be useful. It will mean you can have those calls while doing something else. There are a number of use cases for this. Many will probably already be used to switching away from calls to look at other information - like arranging to meet in a particular location or searching out some other piece of information. Doing that on a WhatsApp call too is going to be great - whether you're having a chat and deciding where to get dinner, or discussing something in a document or other file, PiP support is great to have.  Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro review: Thin, light and ready to delight POCKET-LINT What's happened?
