Google is apparently feeling the heat from ChatGPT and has [accelerated its own AI development in response](. Why does it matter? Google staff have reportedly been developing a number of AI products in response to OpenAI's ChatGPT, including an AI chatbot called Apprentice Bard. What's my take? When ChatGPT surfaced, many people started asking questions about why this wasn't coming from Big Tech, like Google or Microsoft. We have already seen a lot of Google's own AI services - there have been a number of demos around things like call handling or chat services online, but it seems that deployment in the way that ChatGPT is being used wasn't on the list. So Google looks to be pushing the tech forward, perhaps aiming to show off its skills and perhaps result in something that everyone can get excited about. Afterall, we know that Google is heavily invested in the sort of AI and machine learning that power such systems. I expect we'll be seeing more demos soon.  Battlefield Mobile gets cancelled EA What's happened? Battlefield Mobile [has been cancelled by EA](. Why does it matter? The game was first announced in 2021, but EA announced that it was cancelling the project in January 2023. What's my take? Battlefield Mobile, the game that never was. I did wonder how Battlefield was going to transition itself into the space dominated by the likes of PUBG and COD Mobile. Others have tried and failed and we're guessing that EA came to the same conclusion - that it probably couldn't deliver the experience that fans might want or differentiate from existing games on mobile. Ultimately, creating a viral mobile game leads to huge in-game purchases and that can mean big bucks for publishers (as well as Apple and Google), but perhaps EA decided that the threshold was never going to be met.  Dead Space review: The grim fantastic EA What's happened? Having perhaps looked enviously at the stellar response Resident Evil 2 got a few years ago, EA announced its own top-tier horror remake in the form of Dead Space. It's proved a smart play, too - this is a remake every bit as detailed and impressive as Capcom's - except it's built with new-gen consoles in mind, so can push things even further visually. That makes for a truly superb horror experience that might just have resurrected a franchise. Our quick verdict This stunning remake renews a brilliant horror adventure and manages to feel like one of the freshest games we've played in ages.
