Apple is getting ready to have a second attempt at updating its HomeKit smart home system architecture, [it's been reported](. Why does it matter? Apple started rolling out an option for people to update the Home app's "underlying architecture" with iOS 16.2, but later paused that rollout. It has now resumed again with iOS 16.3. What's my take? Apple hasn't specified exactly what the HomeKit changes will bring, just that it changes the underlying architecture of the system and will improve performance. HomeKit hasn't had the smoothest of rides, with Apple struggling to compete with the likes of Amazon and Google when it comes to setting up smart homes and getting others to support standards. Much has changed in recent times, however, with the launch of Matter looking to make everything more simple whether you're a HomeKit user or not. 2023 could be a big year for connected homes.  Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 might fix the crease and the camera at the same time POCKET-LINT What's happened? The next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold phone might fix one annoyance and improve on a vital feature in one fell swoop, [according to new reports](. Why does it matter? They suggest that Samsung is set to fix the screen crease annoyance while upgrading the main camera in a pretty big way - making the new foldable a big upgrade for existing owners. What's my take? With Galaxy Unpacked scheduled for 1 February and the S23 series imminent, rumours about Samsung's other major line of phones are starting to pick up. The first suggests a change in the hinge design of the Z Fold 5 that will reduce the crease in the display. That will quell some of the concerns raised about this type of tech. The second rumour is that the foldable will get the 108-megapixel camera from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. That will give it serious shooting power, which you would expect from Samsung's top phone. The Z Fold 5 is likely to launch in August 2023 alongside a Z Flip 5 - and it sounds like there could be plenty of changes.  HTC Vive XR Elite initial review: Next-gen XR experience POCKET-LINT What's happened? HTC is best known for laying out the landscape for modern Android phones in the early 2010s, but it now focuses most of its energy into VR headsets. And, having been one of the big players in premium VR with the original HTC Vive, it has greatly expanded its premium devices over the years. The HTC Vive XR Elite is its latest but steps into new territory, evolving HTC's previous mobile solution. It removes the wires for a versatile lightweight headset - but one that can also be attached to a PC for enhanced experiences. We got our hands on it at CES 2023 to give a go. Our quick verdict The next-gen headset from HTC offers a versatile design, able to be used standalone or connected, with a hot-swappable battery. It's nice and light, while the front RGB camera offering a great passthrough experience to support its XR skills. It's expensive, however, so much will depend on the pipeline of content for this headset.
