Volvo has pulled the covers from [the Volvo EX90](, which it says is its safest car ever. Why does it matter? This is a fully electric SUV from Volvo, loaded with technology and offering substantial range. What's my take? Within the space of 24 hours we've seen the launch of two electric SUVs with huge batteries. Volvo may offer the longer range, while the Audi Q8 e-tron comes in more powerful versions. What I find interesting about the Volvo launch is the change in language from ride and handling to talk about tech. There's no talk about McPherson struts, but there is the mention of Nvidia Drive, Snapdragon Cockpit and all the Google functions you can access. The fact that this is a car is almost an afterthought. Volvo, instead, is selling you another piece of connected tech - but one with 7 seats.  The Pixel 8 leaks have begun, including codenames and specs POCKET-LINT What's happened? Google's Pixel 7 phones are still fresh but the [first Pixel 8 leaks]( have already begun and they have some cute codenames. Why does it matter? If a report is correct, the two phones are codenamed "Shiba" and "Huskey" respectively. Last year's models were "Cheetah" (Pixel 7) and "Panther" (Pixel 7 Pro) in case you were wondering. What's my take? It's pretty early to be hearing about new device leaks, but phone manufacturers have to start working on new devices long before the customer gets to see them. Aside from names and Android 14, we just have the screen resolution of these devices - and that's far from a certainty at this point. I'm using the Pixel 7 Pro daily myself and the area that Google should focus on is strengthening the battery life - that's where real gains need to be made. We're not expecting anything official until October 2023, however.  A MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR Wirelessly protect your home this winter with Swann Security TRUST As the days grow shorter and the temperatures cooler, it's time to start thinking about how to protect your home from burglary. Or rather, the smaller Echo Dot variants did. The little speaker now sounds better than ever, plus there's a new Kids Edition design and a more useful LED display on the Echo Dot with Clock. Our quick verdict Of all Amazon's Echo devices, the Echo Dot is the easiest to recommended to most people. It's got most of the same capabilities as its bigger, more expensive siblings and - with this year's improved speaker - the sound quality is better than it ever has been. [Read our review.](  In Case You Missed it The [Red Bull Racing e-scooter]( is just as insane as you expect. --- Playing Football Manager [using a controller]( is much better now, it was "frankly s**t" before. --- Beats Studio Buds have a $50 saving right now, [priced at just $99.95]( (was $149.95). That's a third off the cost of the black, white, grey, blue and red earbuds, with 8 hours of battery life, active noise cancelling and an IPX4 rating.  From The Gear Loop HAMMERHEAD The best winter riding kit for road cyclists: Banish the indoor trainer and ride in the fresh air for longer.
