Get them to [sign up here.]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [Website]( Xiaomi dabbles with a phone concept with a camera lens mount on the rear XIAOMI What's happened? Xiaomi has shown off a smartphone concept that [integrates a mount for Leica lenses](. Why does it matter? According to Xiaomi, this concept ran as a project alongside the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. What's my take? Xiaomi is just the latest in a long line of companies to flirt with the idea of putting a proper camera lens on the back of a phone. Sony and Kodak once offered dedicated lenses designed to be used with a smartphone (although they contained their own sensor), and there was no end of rumours about companies like Canon working with phone manufacturers - but nothing came to pass. In this concept, there's a dedicated sensor designed to be used with the lens, rather than the lens running via the phone's existing camera which would lead to no end of problems with focusing and control. The problem with these concepts, however, is that you lose the phone's biggest advantage - it's no longer compact. You might as well then just carry a proper camera, because in reality, it's usually the lens that's the biggest component. There's no indication that this is going to launch and I can't, honestly, see that it would progress the smartphone photography space - I think it would just lead to a compromised experience and leave you wishing you'd just bought a Leica M camera instead. Canon EOS R6 Mark II is brand's fastest full-frame mirrorless camera yet CANON What's happened? Canon has unveiled what it claims to be its "fastest advanced full-frame mirrorless camera", [the EOS R6 Mark II](. Why does it matter? Boasting a newly-formed 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and the same DIGIC X processor tech found in the EOS-1D X Mark III, the camera also supports the brand's Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus engine. What's my take? There's still a healthy appetite for proper cameras. While smartphones destroyed the need for compact cameras, more sophisticated systems continue to have appeal for enthusiasts who want more. Smartphones will boast about the AI they offer, and that's something that Canon offers too. It means the camera can recognise particular types of objects through its tracking autofocus system to give you better results. It also offers something called moving subject HDR, which aims to capture greater dynamic range, most likely to give you an easy route to those HDR shots that smartphones will produce through processing. The real changes to the hardware include a new 24.2-megapixel sensor and there's now wider support for various video functions too. Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2022) review: Best in class POCKET-LINT What's happened? While the latest iPad got a design shake-up, the upgrades to the new iPad Pro are internal rather than external, with the introduction of the M2 chip, making it a lot more powerful. That power comes with a very steep price tag - especially for the 12.9-inch model - so is it worth it and should you buy it? Our quick verdict Apple has made its best tablet even better with the 2022 model and while you pay a very high price for it, it's an exceptional device that is not only best in class but truly delivers - with plenty more in the bank for when you demand that little bit extra. If you're after a Pro tablet, you are looking right at it.
