Get them to [sign up here.]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [Website]( Amazon continues to chase ambient computing utopia with a slew of new devices AMAZON What's happened? Amazon introduced a host of new products and updates at [its hardware event]( including the Kindle Scribe, new Echo Dot, Ring and Blink cameras, Fire TV updates, Eero hardware, a Halo Rise sleep-tracking clock, and more. Why does it matter? The company continues to find ways to make Amazon services as seamlessly accessible as possible, so it's always there, in the background. What's my take? Amazon didn't invite the media to Seattle this year, but I did watch it in the company's London HQ. I also had the chance to talk to Daniel Rausch,VP of entertainment devices and services, afterwards. The theme running through everything that Amazon launches is ambient computing. The idea of having the device almost vanish into the background, so the services it offers are just there. Amazon calls this ambient computing and as we amass Amazon (or Google, or Apple) devices in our homes, we're getting more and more services that require almost no effort to access. While much of what Amazon offered in this event was an update, here's a rundown of the new or updated hardware that might pique your interest: - [Kindle Scribe]( - [Halo Rise]( - [Echo Dot (5 gen)]( - [Echo Studio]( - [Echo Auto (2 gen)]( - [Fire TV Omni QLED]( - [Fire TV Cube (3 gen)]( - [Voice Remote Pro]( - [Blink Mini Pan Tilt and Wired Floodlight Camera]( - [Ring Spotlight Cam Pro]( Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra leaks in high-quality renders SMARTPRIX / ONLEAKS What's happened? A [collection of images]( of what is said to be the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra have been shared online. Why does it matter? This is going to be Samsung's flagship phone for 2023. What's my take? We're back into leak season and it's a glorious place to be. These particular leaks come from Steve Hemmerstoffer, who has, over many years, given some incredibly accurate device leaks. I believe Steve gets these leaks from supply chain sources, but typically the only details that tend to be inaccurate are surface textures - so I'm confident this is what we'll get on launch day. That sort of spoils the game a little, but at the same time, smartphones walk an incremental path and anyone who has been in the industry for more than a few refresh cycles can pretty much predict the design. What's becoming increasingly important are the software features. Phones are now all about AI and we won't know until launch day what new magic Samsung will be attempting to perform with its camera software, or how it will want to leverage its ecosystem. I'm expecting the Galaxy S23 family to launch around the middle of February, not because there have been any leaks about the launch date, but because that's what Samsung usually does. For laptops, you want to have a big screen to work on, but still be able to carry it around with you easily - the idea is you can have a much bigger display than typical but one that can fold smaller and go in your bag. The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is Asus' techy offering - but how does it hold up in real-world use? Our quick verdict While the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED form is exciting and futuristic, there's definitely some work to be done to make this a more elegant and practical solution. The system has its merits, though, and we're excited to see what the future holds for this category.
