Today will see the [Far Out Apple launch event]( take place, with a refresh of new devices across the Apple portfolio. Why does it matter? The annual product launch is headlined by the new iPhone, with some changes expected to the family. What's my take? Today is one of the biggest days in the tech calendar - if you're an Apple fan, that is. Even if you're not an Apple fan, the announcements made today will have an impact on the industry far and wide, dictating the future direction for a number of tech brands. The launch list is exhaustive, if leaks prove correct: - [iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus](
- [iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max](
- [Apple Watch 8 Series](
- [Apple Watch Pro](
- [Apple Watch SE](
- [Apple AirPods Pro 2]( Of these, there will be keen interest in the iPhone 14 Plus - a larger "normal" version of the phone - and the Apple Watch Pro, which could finally see the design of the Apple Watch change just a little bit. We have Britta O'Boyle out in Cupertino to bring you news as it happens and there will be plenty to get your teeth into on Pocket-lint through the evening. Not to be outdone, Google confirms 6 October Made by Google event GOOGLE What's happened? Google has confirmed that it will be hosting its next [Made by Google event]( on 6 October. Why does it matter? The event will bring a range of devices from Google, most of which were teased at Google I/O. What's my take? Announcing your event the day before Apple's is one way to get the attention of tech fans - while showcasing pretty much the same selection of products we're expecting to see from Apple is the cherry on top. But these big tech launches help build huge buzz for the companies involved. What's always interested me about them is how different they are: Apple's is full of polish, with slick transitions and self-congratulatory statements, while Google is often more casual, more relaxed - and the most interesting announcement isn't always the new hardware. Google tends to show off some software elements, like some AI or ML tech it's working on, which really wows, but doesn't always get the attention it deserves. So even if you don't care about the products, it's worth dropping the date in your calendar. A MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR HP is extending its excellent Labor Day sale! TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 review: A touch of class POCKET-LINT What's happened? It was something of a surprise when TAG Heuer joined the smartwatch market when it did, with the first Connected smartwatch. For a company well-known for its high-end mechanical watches, a shift of focus to tech seemed contrary to its historical leanings. However, in 2022 it remains as committed as ever to this market, and is one of the few class brands offering ultra-premium, luxury smartwatches for those who want impeccable styling but with modern tech thrown in. Our quick verdict If you're in the market for a luxury smartwatch that does all the basic things right, the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 certainly is that. It's very expensive though, and doesn't offer anything more than any other WearOS smartwatch. In fact, it offers less than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.
