We've previously learned that the Apple Watch Pro will be a better spec'ed, more sturdy, model with a larger display. Now, we have some [CAD renders]( based on reports by "industry sources" that show us the new design. Why does it matter? The Apple Watch Pro is expected to launch alongside the new iPhone models at tomorrow's ["Far Out" event](. What's my take? There's been a lot of talk about the Apple Watch Pro and it's assumed that the Cupertino firm wants to take on the likes of Garmin with a wearable that's more rugged. That raised button on the side looks ideal to use as a start/lap/stop button for workouts, for example. Apple's aim is likely to be diversity, to put out a new model to tempt people to adopt, or expand, their Apple Watch selection. Because, let's face it, they basically all look the same, and if you want to sell more, you need something different. The bigger question - beyond design - is how much Apple will want to put into the software side to support the type of features that Garmin offers? Garmin's universe is huge - but we know that Apple has a potentially massive customer base too, so it might be worth the investment. Forget new TV tech, "sustainability" was the buzzword of IFA 2022 POCKET-LINT What's happened? IFA 2022 was quite unlike many of its predecessors - it didn't focus on a new TV technology, video standard, or even a device trend. Why does it matter? The biggest message we took from the show is that companies are continuing to do their very best to create new products, but with the planet's fragile future at the forefront of design decisions. What's my take? Technology has long been seen as both the source of massive amounts of waste and its solution. That's even more prevalent this year, as big tech grows ever keen on pushing sustainability messages as they try to convince you to buy a new TV or fridge. Reducing the power consumption of devices, or using AI to adapt them to better suit user demands and reduce wasted energy is all great, but the focus on increasing repairability, or schemes like [Nokia's Circular]( to reward customers for retaining their tech for longer will all help to clean up tech. The only issue is, as [Rik Henderson says in his opinion piece]( "It's just a shame that we all had to fly to Germany, tread massive, air conditioned halls, and view huge, powered displays for the penny to drop."
