Gamescom is Germany's biggest annual videogames convention and it opened as an in-person show last night. Why does it matter? Not only are actual fans going to be able to attend, but Gamescom has also already revealed a range of titles to be excited about. What's my take? The biggest news from Gamescom so far might have been the [PS5 DualSense Edge Controller]( but there was a lot more packed into the Opening Night Live presentation, including a full run of games to get excited about. These are the titles that caught my eye: - The Callisto Protocol - basically a Dead Space sequel. - Hogwarts Legacy - delayed, but pre-orders open 25 August. - Dying Light 2: Stay Human - Bloody Ties - the first DLC for DL2. - Sonic Frontiers - the next Sonic game lands 8 November. - Return to Monkey Island - so much nostalgia and launching 19 September. - The Expanse: A Telltale Series - I loved the TV series, will the game work? - Dead Island 2 - you'll have to wait until Feb 2023, but it's finally happening. [You can find all the trailers and more details in our roundup here.]( New iPadOS to follow after iOS 16 release, as Apple breaks with convention APPLE What's happened? Apple has confirmed that it is to [break with convention]( and stagger the release of its iPhone and iPad operating systems. Why does it matter? It will make iOS 16 available soon after the launch of the iPhone 14 in September, but [iPadOS 16]( will be delayed until later this autumn. What's my take? Apple used to push out its software updates as regular as clockwork - but it looks like that might be changing for its forthcoming iPhone and iPad software builds. Moving the iPad OS update to later gives Apple a little more breathing space, perhaps. It says this is a big year for changes, with some impressive new features such as [Stage Manager]( so the extra time could be useful. There are also [rumours]( about changes to the iPad line-up, so perhaps the delay will help accommodate new hardware, too. Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3 review: Still packing punch POCKET-LINT What's happened? Some upgrades are big, others are small - this is as true in the tech world as anywhere else in life. In the Wonderboom 3, we're looking at one of those smaller upgrades. Ultimate Ears has chosen to not fix something that wasn't broken. Fair enough, if it ain't broke don't fix it right? Our quick verdict The Wonderboom 3 is, like the two speakers before it, a great compact option that does brilliantly in the elements. For the first time, its use of Micro USB is genuinely off-putting but, apart from that, it's a shoo-in as one of the very best portable Bluetooth speakers out there. [Read our review](.
