Get them to [sign up here.]( The Apple Watch Series 3 won't be getting watchOS 9 Pocket-lint What's happened? Apple is calling time on the Apple Watch Series 3. The company has [confirmed]( that it won't be getting the latest operating system - watchOS 9. Why does it matter? The Watch Series 3 is one of the company's most popular Apple Watches, so this could be a big blow to many. What's my take? To be fair, Apple's move is understandable. Technology waits for no man, so five years after it was first launched, Apple has confirmed that it won't be getting the latest software updates announced at WWDC this week. That wouldn't normally be a problem - after all, we can't expect new things from aging tech. However, the Series 3 is still as popular today as it was half a decade ago, and I know many who are still enjoying one. Indeed, some that have only just bought it. Now you could argue that the latest updates won't make a huge difference to the typical Series 3 user. But, there will be a lot of people that'll undoubtedly be surprised they won't be getting Apple's new feature. On the other hand, that will also result in a lot of people that will, come "this fall", be looking to upgrade. - [WatchOS 9: All the features coming to your Apple Watch]( EU to make USB-C mandatory for phones by fall 2024 Unsplash What's happened? The EU has agreed on [new legislation]( to force all phone manufacturers to adopt USB-C for charging if they haven't already, and that includes Apple. Why does it matter? It's not just phones that will be affected. Other electronic devices that feature wired charging, such as tablets and cameras, must adopt it also. If they want to be sold within EU countries, at least. What's my take? The biggest news here is that Apple has to soon ditch the Lightning port in favour of USB-C - not only on future iPhones, but also all the company's accessories, including keyboards, mice and headphones. While the company has already started the transition to USB-C for iPad and MacBook, I suspect it's all the other bits that will prove problematic. It's not just Apple, of course. The days of the specific charger for a specific device is doomed - in Europe, anyway. That's going to cause plenty of headaches for manufacturers as they try to adapt to the new world order.
