Apple has succumbed to what has felt like the inevitable and announced that it's [discontinuing]( the last of its iPods, the latest iPod touch, which will only be available new from retailers while supplies last. Why does it matter? It means that a 20-year stint of revolutionary music players will come to an end, and the iPhone or Apple Watch will become the only way to get a new device from Apple to play music on the go. What's my take? The one thing that you can always guarantee with technology is that there will come a time when what was once great and game changing becomes old hat and eventually irrelevant. And so, after 20 years of allowing us to listen to music on the go, in a way that while possible before, didn't capture our imaginations as much, the iPod is confined to the history books. I had plenty of MP3 players before the iPod - the Creative Jukebox was amazing - but the iPod and those iconic colourful ads really bought the idea of having all your music on the go to the masses - especially once Apple had worked out there was money to be made via the iTunes store - that unbelievably didn't arrive for almost two years after the launch. It was the groundwork laid by iPod that delivered the perfect foundation for the iPhone we have today. Without it, who knows what would have happened? - [A visual history of every model over 21 years]( Google I/O set to reveal more on Android 13, but is a smartwatch also on the cards? Google What's happened? Google I/O, the company's annual developer conference, kicks off today. Why does it matter? Like WWDC for Apple and Build for Microsoft, Google I/O is the company's spring event and the chance for it to detail its plans for its software offering for the rest of the year - oh and we normally get a bit of hardware thrown in for good measure. What's my take? Since the start of the pandemic Google I/O hasn't been the big event it once was, and it seems this year is no different. However that doesn't mean we aren't expecting plenty of announcements from the two-day event including more details on Android 13, an update of what's happening with wearables including Fitbit, and possibly some rumoured devices such as the Pixel 6a, Pixel Buds Pro, and possibly even the Pixel Watch. While the first two are updates on already released products, it will be interesting to see - if it happens - Google's approach to the smartwatch market beyond just offering the operating system to other manufacturers. - [Google I/O 2022: How to watch the opening keynote and what to expect]( A MESSAGE FROM SPONSOR What is Nvidia Advanced Optimus and how can it save your laptop's battery? [Find out how!]( DJI Mini 3 Pro review: Small size, big features Pocket-lint What's happened? The Mini 3 Pro is an entirely different beast from what we've seen previously from DJI, shelling the entry-level tag of its predecessors and offering a truly compelling option for all comers. Our quick verdict The DJI Mini 3 Pro is our new favourite drone. It's got almost all the features you could want from DJI's larger drones but is shrunken down into a tiny and lightweight form factor. The image is superb, the flying is smooth and you'll barely feel it in your backpack. Our only wish is that it didn't cost so much. We think there's more than enough added to justify the price increase, but it puts it out of reach for a lot of consumers. If the Mini 3 Pro was priced closer to its predecessors, we think it might just be the perfect drone.
