Pocket-lint What's happened? Apple will host its annual WWDC event from 6 June 2022 and will undoubtedly announce iOS 16 and the other family of next-gen operating systems across its range. It will also [unveil two new Macs]( it is said, with a couple of devices tipped for release soon after. Why does it matter? Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes in the latest edition of his largely Apple-centic Power On newsletter that we should expect a couple of Macs, including the much-rumoured M2 MacBook Air: "I'm told there are two new Macs coming around the middle of the year or early in the second half. One of those is likely to be the new MacBook Air." What's my take? That Apple is considering hardware launches for its virtual-only developers conference this year is nothing new. It generally adds a new Mac or two to the lineup during or soon after the show. The fog of uncertainty is over what it plans to announce. According to many rumours over the last few weeks, a new MacBook Air sporting second-generation Apple Silicon - the M2 chipset - is a given, but what about the other Mac suggested? It could be a refreshed "entry-level" MacBook Pro, Mac mini or 24-inch iMac, states Gurman. However, we at Pocket-lint have long expected a new Mac Pro to be imminent and I see no reason to question that opinion. Some might see the recent launch of the Mac Studio as negating the need for a Mac Pro so soon after, but I think the opposite. I believe the Mac Studio is aimed at a different market and therefore simply whets the appetite of the higher-end, power-users for a Mac Pro running on even more impressive Silicon. WWDC also seems to be the best venue for that kind of machine. Guess we'll have to wait to see. OnePlus first foldable could be rebadged Oppo Find N Oppo What's happened? Foldable smartphones have become more popular over the last couple of years but, while OnePlus competes in the flagship smartphone market, it has yet to make its mark in the foldable sector. That could be set to change. Why does it matter? A tip from online leaker Yogesh Brar suggests the company is working on its [first foldable smartphone]( although it's claimed to be just a re-badged Oppo Find N. What's my take? Since its formation, OnePlus has increasingly operated more like stablemates Oppo, Vivo, Realme and IQOO. Even the technology more closely resembles Oppo's output these days. There are thoughts that the long-lost standard OnePlus 10 model will release under Oppo branding (as the Oppo Reno 8), and now it is claimed that the firm's first foray into foldables will use the existing Find N as it's foundation. For overall owner BBK Electronics, it makes sense. The Oppo Find N is a decent book-style foldable, so why not use the tech for its other big-name brand, to bring it into the foldable market more quickly and efficiently? I just can't help but feel that OnePlus is losing its identity in the process. A MESSAGE FROM SPONSOR The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is now the best Robot Vacuum for pets Pocket-lint Got a pet? In reality, though, with the top-end, multisport-focused Fenix 7 now also offering touchscreen capabilities, the key selling point for the Epix 2 is its new AMOLED display. Our quick verdict The second-generation Epix finds the right balance between offering a bright, colourful display and maintaining strong battery life.
