Get them to [sign up here.]( Is Sonos' latest acquisition more evidence it is working on headphones? Pocket-lint What's happened? Sonos has [reportedly]( acquired the Bluetooth audio startup T2 Software. Why does it matter? The company has been long rumoured to be working on a pair of headphones that would not only work out and about, but also instantly connect to your Sonos multi-room system that the company is famous for. What's my take? It makes a lot of sense for Sonos to move into the headphone space, especially given its heritage in the speaker space, but also because, well, most of us have a speaker now so it's not the boom market it once was. And with Sonos keen to continue to grow the business, it has to look at other areas if it wants to continue to expand. The problem is that every company seems to make headphones these days, so it will have to make sure there's a strong enough differentiator if it wants to be seen as more than just another also-ran. Microsoft's [proposed]( $68.7 billion takeover of Activision Blizzard will be reviewed by the Federal Trade Commission in the US. Why does it matter? In this case, the focus will almost certainly be on how Microsoft's ownership of the publisher will affect rivals, such as Sony. What's my take? A deal this size was bound to lure the powers that check on these things, especially since it sent shockwaves through the industry and initially impacted Sony's share price. But since then we've also seen other M&A movement, specifically the Sony-Bungie deal this week, which, while not in the same league in terms of size, suggests that there is a land grab going on to ensure no-one believes they are being left out.
