The New York Times' Games section - famous for The Crossword puzzle, among other things - has [announced]( it acquired one of the world's most popular word games and cultural phenomenons: Wordle. Why does it matter? By buying Wordle, the New York Times said it's looking to "entertain more solvers with puzzles every day - especially during these anxious times." What's my take? We all love a good puzzle. I remember working at The Times (in London) when Sudoku was all the rage and how the newspaper did a deal with the man responsible for bringing the Japanese puzzle to the UK to have it published in the paper each day. Sudoku was a massive hit, boosting circulation and sales, and spawning a plethora of money-making puzzle books in the process. Some 18 years later and I see Wordle repeating that story, albeit for a different Times newspaper. And the US paper will likely follow the same playbook, by trying to get as many people hooked as possible, before raising a paywall to boost subscriptions and rounding out the year with a Christmas stocking compendium, by which point most of us will have probably have moved on to another fad. Still, hats off to Wordle creator Josh Wardle, and hats of to the NYT. A low seven figure to buy the puzzle sounds like a steal. Oppo reportedly following Find N with foldable flip phone Pocket-lint What's happened? Oppo will [reportedly]( enter the foldable flip phone market with a new device in its Find series to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Huawei P50 Pocket. Why does it matter? Oppo has long developed different form factors using bendable OLED panels, including a rollable concept device shown in July 2021. The Oppo X 2021 has a screen that extends from a regular smartphone shape, effectively widening the handset rather than unfolding. What's my take? Looks like clamshell phones are trying to make a comeback. Blink and you'll miss it: Motorola's budget range moves fast, with numerous handsets appearing in its G series ranks. In 2021 the lower-end models were the Moto G10 and G30, but having both in existence didn't make a massive amount of sense - and we thought the G10 was "no longer the default choice" as a result. Hence this handset, the Moto G31, which is a bit like taking those two aforementioned devices and merging them into one all-new solution, which sits beneath the G50 model (that's reserved for those wanting 5G connectivity) in the G series line-up. Our quick verdict The replacement for the G10 and G30 brings more sensible solutions, including a better screen resolution AMOLED panel, that along with the clean software experience makes this a great affordable phone. The cameras are still so-so at best, though, but while rivals such as Realme and Redmi might read better on paper, you can't shake Motorola for the user experience on offer.
