Hey, Happy New Year! I wish you all the best for 2021. Hopefully, this year will be more gentle and kind. While external factors can tremendously shape our lives, I like to believe that internal ones are at least as important. Therefore, I encourage you to make choices where you can, let it be where you don't have control, and have a bit of fun along the way. This time last year, I had the pleasure to snowboard a bit in Bukovel, Ukraine, with George, one of my teammates who taught me everything about this sport. It was the first time I dared to use my toes to turn and draw those famous S shapes on the snow. Back then, I started taking some notes on my phone about the pressure that usually floats in the early days of a new year. Everyone is talking about new resolutions, goals, bucket lists, and such, but in 2021 there's a certain silence that's welcoming and liberating. As I wrote at that moment, at Pixelgrade, [we don't make big plans]([at the begining of the year]( because we don't have to. It feels artificial and useless. We have plenty of things that are in motion already, so why remove them and start from a blank canvas? Talking about transitions, I put together an [article about what spending five years]( (and counting) at Pixelgrade taught me. I wrote about why time is crucial if you want to understand people and a company's culture in-depth, how investing so many hours in the first years helped me earn even more time now, and why hurrying up and using the same strategy does not help you achieve different results. Being both a CPO (Chief People Officer) at Pixelgrade and a community builder for creative industries brought me plenty of new perspectives on long-term thinking. In the fifth year, I accepted more than ever that we have time to accomplish our dreams and obtain whatever we want from life in general. The condition is in daring to reconstruct the notion of time and how we spend it. Often, it's just a matter of changing the lenses to start noticing nuances. Creating meaningful work next to my teammates for five years in a row is a victory in itself that's hard to beat. All these years shaped my values and beliefs, and it opened gateways that I've not even dreamed of being possible. Regardless if you have a job when you're reading these lines or you are on the threshold of changing careers, please keep in mind that you need to invest time to get time in return. Once again, stay safe and kind. And stay. Virtual hugs, —Oana Why I'm getting this? You’re receiving this email because you use one of our free or premium products.
