Hey, Wow, can you believe it's the end of 2020 already? I vividly remember what I felt in March when the pandemic kicked-off in Romania, where all of us at Pixelgrade are based. I've been putting a lot of thought into many things lately, including what I want to accomplish by sending this email. While I definitely don't lack topics since a lot has happened on our side of the world (both good and worrying), I feel it's one of those moments when I can change the narrative and aim for something better. Let me explain. It's been a tough year for all of us. So many things changed in 2020 that I often experience mental fatigue just thinking about them, and I bet you feel the same. It's just too much of everything. Too much politics, too many conflicts, too much to debate, too many opportunities, too many things to watch simultaneously, too many causes to support at once, etc. Caught in this carousel, I wondered: why act selfishly and add even more to this growing pile of events and feelings? At Pixelgrade, we have strong values that we put at the forefront of everything we do, and care is one of them. In the following lines, I set out to manifest it once again rather than being cocky and showing off all kinds of wins we experienced during 2020. While there's no wonder these achievements are essential and shaped our becoming, the truth is they're more relevant for us than you. In the end, it's our journey. Why should you care so much about our effort to put together an online community where we share vulnerable stories? How does the fact that we've helped local businesses reinvent themselves in the digital playground make your life any better? Why it's crucial to know the roller-coaster we've been through to make Rosa2 + Nova Blocks a better system for creating websites? Don't get me wrong. I'm aware that the above answers matter and say something about us, our culture, and our way of making things happen. But somehow, I feel this is not the right approach to take to open up a meaningful conversation. I'm far more interested in finding an honest answer to the following question — do all these happenings weight enough to deserve your mental space at the end of a complicated and tiring year? I don't think so. I'm keen to twist the red thread and invite you to let us know how was 2020 for you. Yes, you read it well. How do you feel at the end of it? What helped you navigate the unrelenting challenges? What would you need to feel more secure, especially emotionally? If this is not the first email you receive from us, I genuinely believe you know us quite well. At least, you have a feeling about the people behind the curtains. However, the opposite is not necessarily valid, making our relationship unbalanced since we're almost always the ones knocking at your digital door, not you. It's time to change that. Therefore, please help me redirect the spotlight on you to take the stage, the microphone, and share bits and pieces of your story. It's an invitation to get to know you and understand who's the guy or gal reading our newsletters. It's not the ideal scenario, but it is better than nothing. We need to start somewhere, right? This year showed us all that adaptation is the only way to survive and thrive. The truth is that often companies think and act single-mindedly. They're assuming a lot and question too little. They like to believe that what they have to say is crucial. They enjoy thinking that people out there wait for news. Maybe this is the only lens through which they look at the world, perhaps not, but that's not the point. We aren't like everyone else out there. Our stake lies in narrowing the gap, creating healthier relationships, and changing things for the better on a collective level. It's the only way to keep our wheels spinning in the long haul. After nine years of pushing boundaries in the digital arena, we learned that it takes two to tango to make an impact. In the end, it's far more significant and fun to enjoy the adventure with like-minded people than as a lonely player. As the saying goes, we all have two wolves inside us: one good, one bad. Our becoming depends on who we keep feeding, and we made that choice a very long time ago. This email is one of the many attempts we've embraced along the way to keep reinforcing our messages in an authentic way. Therefore, I would be grateful if you'd take the lead on this and write me back with a few thoughts that picture an image of you. Choose whatever you want and feel comfortable sharing. And hey, I'll totally understand if you're not in the mood. No worries about that; it happens to the best of us. It's been a draining year, so there's no room for strings attached. Whatever you decide, it's okay. My team and I wish you happy holidays and a new year full of kindness, empathy, and love. Waving from Romania, Oana P.S.
