Hey {NAME}, I hope you had a wonderful weekend. You might be wondering why a physical therapist is emailing you about fill valves and flappers... 2 simple reasons. - My toilets been “running” and so I just replaced both… - Believe it or not, fixing a toilet can teach us a lot about pain relief You’d be happy to know that after replacing both my fill value and flapper- my toilet no longer runs. But I’m sad to say I don’t know what fixed it… was it the fill valve or the flapper or both? And therein lies the problem. Because I’m no plumber… apparently I’m not an expert in diagnosing the cause of my toilet symptoms and therefore decided I’d might as well replace everything. I got lucky and it worked… but it was more costly - time, energy, and money wise - than if I would have narrowed in on the real root of the problem and just fixed that. Sound familiar? Enough about toilets and 'Mr. Fix It' projects... let’s talk about your pain. Chances are you’re doing many exercises (or treatments) to try and relieve your pain. You know… the “classic” ones. Bird dogs, planks, figure 4 stretches, sciatic nerve glides, glute bridges and so on… Bird dogs and planks are targeting a weak core, figure 4 stretches target tight hips, nerve glides target the sciatic nerve, glute bridges are aimed at improving glute strength… And even if you think they’re working, my question to you is - WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE? “Let’s treat everything, not any one thing, and hope your pain goes away- sound good?” NO, bad plan (and a big waste of time, energy, and money) This could be likened to a plumber who has no clue why your toilet is running- and so they throw the whole kitchen sink at it. You call for a leaky toilet and instead of testing to find the real issue… they blindly start replacing everything and send ya the bill later. Whether we’re talking about plumbing or pain… it’s important that you find someone who can identify the issue and treat it as quickly and easily as possible. OR better yet, learn how to fix the problem yourself so that you don’t have to rely on others.
