Hey photographers, let's talk about this... [Home]( Bird Photography: Action Vs. Static Download the [Bird Photography Case Studies]( today to learn and borrow ideas from specific situation examples (but read the tip below first!). –– In any type of wildlife photography, the most interesting shots are often images where animal behavior is captured in action. A static shot is more or less a portrait with no behavior details revealed. Both images have their place in your portfolio. This is your classic bird action shot. The bird is in flight and it is also feeding. When creating your bird photography, consider the end result. If this image were to go into a generalized stock photography library, it would work pretty well. What differentiates an action photograph from a static photograph? (Note: Today, you can grab your bird photography case studies, that includes a new exclusive free bonus, [right here]( for a limited time!) In the example images above, the top photograph is a static bird image. The bottom photograph is an action bird image. What is the difference? In the top image, the birds are simply caught in time, staring at the camera. In the bottom image, the hen is protecting her offspring. She is displaying species behavior. The top image is more of a portrait. Let’s look at another photograph. Is this action or static? This shot is very much right on the line. I see it as an action shot due to one element. Can you guess what it is? It’s the tip of the head. The tip of the head gives insight into what the bird is thinking: curiosity! The next time you are out photographing birds, try to clearly identify and capture the two types of bird photographs discussed here: action and static. In composing your images, try different types of framing as well. BONUS: I've got something special for you on the next page...
