For its 12th year, [Photoville Education]( in partnership with [PhotoWings]( produced a free professional development workshop for NYC educators. Hosted by [Abrons Arts Center]( this lab created a space to explore the evolving work within trauma-informed care and youth development programming.  Danny Arenas, LMSW began the workshop by introducing Healing-Centered Engagement, equipping educators with practical tools for the classroom that incorporate SEL through the power of visual storytelling and other art practices. We were then joined by Bard High School Teacher, Alexis Lambrou and their students who were previously featured in the 2023 Photoville Festival exhibition, “[Speaking Portraits]( that was awarded a 2023 Photoville Educator Grant, with support from [PhotoWings](. During this presentation and Q+A, Lambrou guided the conversation with students, Martina, Ivy, and Aspen as they discussed the impact art has on their practices of storytelling. Educators received first-hand accounts of the power that visual storytelling has on students’ evolution as a holistic artist. Closing out the day, artist/educator, Lacresha Berry led a powerfully interactive and engaging workshop that helped educators to further explore tools using different expressive practices in developing curriculum informed by Social Emotional Learning. Now available, the [Social Emotional Learning Resource page]( has been created for you to access any time, any where to bring this experience to your classroom. SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNINGRESOURCES Available to you any time, any where, the [Social Emotional Learning Resource page]( combines all elements from the workshop into a one-stop-shop with an Educator Resource Guide, workshop presentations, interactive workbook, live recordings, and takeaways and activities for you to adapt to your classroom.
