It’s the news we’ve all been patiently waiting for: [The Photoville Festival - New York’s favorite photo festival - is back!]( Returning to our iconic stomping grounds in Brooklyn Bridge Park and in all five boroughs of NYC, June 1-16, 2024. The time has officially come for our Photoville Village to come together for another year. For the 2024 festival, we have collaborated with a truly special and outstanding group of artists and programming partners to curate and present [over 85 free outdoor photo exhibitions]( across all five boroughs of NYC. In a time marked by both tragedy and resilience, Photoville remains committed to highlighting stories of hope, joy, and compassion, while honoring stories of adversity and heartbreak. By bringing these uniquely diverse perspectives to the city and the blocks we call home, we aim to elevate the power of visual storytelling by fostering empathy and understanding within our communities. This year, we will be hosting a series of free public programs and a specially curated exhibit to be announced, in our continued support of journalistic safety and conflict photojournalism. We are so grateful to all of our [partners]( [artists]( and staff including our marquee partners: [Brooklyn Bridge Park]( [NYC Parks]( [Leica Camera]( [NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment]( [The Seaport]( [New York State Council on the Arts]( [NYC Department of Cultural Affairs]( and [PhotoWings](. And to all of the many folks who contribute to the magic of our annual festival, we are so deeply grateful to spend another Photoville summer with you. We at Photoville believe a summer filled with eye-opening photojournalism and inventive visual storytelling is a summer worth celebrating, don’t you agree? [Join us for our Opening Weekend Community Celebration, June 1-2, 2024!]( Two days dedicated to celebrating the global voices, visions, and creativity of the visual storytellers who empower and support our communities around the world. This year, we hope that each of you will have the opportunity to experience the magic of Photoville’s exhibits and the joy of the festival as much as possible! [CHECK OUT ALL 87 EXHIBITIONS HERE]( #PHOTOVILLEFESTIVAL OPENING WEEKEND COMMUNITY CELEBRATION BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK JUNE 1 - JUNE 2, 2024 The Photoville Festival wouldn't be complete without celebrating it the right way! Join us on June 1 and June 2, 2024, for our free [Opening Weekend Community Celebration]( at [Brooklyn Bridge Park]( This year, we're reintroducing beloved opening weekend classics alongside exciting new additions. We're pulling out all the stops with two full days of family-friendly activities, carefully curated photography workshops for professionals and lovers of the craft, engaging tours, and a powerfully captivating night of visual storytelling. There is something for everyone: [Leica Camera]( workshops, a [Penumbra]( tintype portrait booth, family activities with [Creatively Wild]( safety workshops designed for visual journalists with [ACOS Alliance]( and [Committee to Protect Journalists]( workshops with the [International Center of Photography]( artist-led walking tours with [Adobe]( and specially curated tours with festival artists and curators. Not to mention, our [Educator Community Happy Hour]( on the Brooklyn Waterfront. If you find yourself hungry, we've got you covered with delicious bites at the [Smorgasburg Pop Up](. As the summer sun sets, the evening will come alive with our special “We Are Happy To Inspire You” celebration, showcasing new and emerging talents and photography projects from around the world. Join us as we close out with this special commemoration of a summer dedicated to visual storytelling! We will be sharing more details regarding opening weekend and public programming next week! While the Opening Weekend Community Celebration is June 1-2, we have the month of June filled with specially curated in-person events and activities in collaboration with [The Seaport]( and [MFON]( - open and free to the public as always! [OPENING WEEKEND LINE-UP TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON]( #PHOTOVILLEFESTIVAL VISUAL JOURNALIST SAFETY WORKSHOPS WITH ACOS ALLIANCE & CPJ JUNE 2 & JUNE 6, 2024 In our continued partnership with [ACOS Alliance]( and [Committee to Protect Journalists]( we will be offering a series of free practical workshops supported by [Leica Camera](. These workshops will focus on strengthening the safety skills of visual journalists at all stages of their career, and build upon each other to provide participants with a holistic understanding of how to better protect themselves before, during, and after assignments. There will be 2 workshops held in-person on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the [Opening Weekend Community Celebration]( and 1 workshop held virtually on Thursday, June 6, 2024. The topics covered include, but are not limited to: - Safety fundamentals, such as risk assessments - Threat modeling - Digital security - Legal rights: how to safely cover elections and civil unrest and how to confidently negotiate contracts to ensure safe working conditions [STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS TO COME]( #PHOTOVILLEFESTIVAL FREE VIRTUAL DEEP DIVE SESSIONS WITH DIVERSIFY PHOTO JUNE 12 - 14, 2024 Introducing “Deep Dive”, a series of professional development sessions with [Diversify Photo]( and Photoville, supported by [Leica Camera](. Because we know our community is global, we are committed to providing accessible and free virtual programs for everyone. Join us for another summer online, as we examine and celebrate approaches that go beyond the surface in the ever changing landscape of photography and photojournalism. These panel discussions will cover the intricacies of long-term story creation planning; the strategies for working better with communities that have experienced trauma; and the methodology behind journalism that focuses on solutions, not just problems. [STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS TO COME]( #PHOTOVILLEFESTIVAL EDUCATION FIELD TRIP DAYS JUNE 4 - JUNE 5, 2024 Join the Photoville team, artists and partners this summer as we embark on another year for the [2024 Photoville Festival Education Day Field Trips]( free and open to all NYC middle and high school students, thanks to our friends at [PhotoWings]( the [NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment]( and [Brooklyn Bridge Park](. On June 4th and June 5th, 2024, we are inviting youth from all five boroughs to come down with their teachers and explore the power of visual storytelling! In the 3 sessions to choose from, we’ll: - Conduct guided tours with Photoville Festival artists and curators. - Introduce students to other youth artists. - Enjoy a picnic pizza party set against the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge.
