Spell, Time, Practice, American, Body is the highly anticipated first book by artist, filmmaker, and writer RaMell Ross. Bringing together Ross’s large-format photographs, sculptures, conceptual works, and selected films, together with illuminating texts by Ross and a host of writers, this ambitious publication presents a chronicle of the American South that is both mysterious and quotidian, a historical document and a radical imagining of the future. [Pre-Order Signed copies of Spell, Time, Practice, American, Body or read more]( ARRIVING SOON --------------------------------------------------------------- Winter Nights, Walking Ed Panar The title refers to a celebrated photography project by Robert Adams entitled Summer Nights, Walking, which was made in the city of Denver, Colorado. While the project could be seen as a nod to Adams, Panar’s intention is to create something specifically about Pittsburgh, in which he highlights the unique qualities of the recent winter seasons in this region, with an eye towards the changing climate and the dark winters of the Covid-19 pandemic. [Order Winter Nights, Walking or read more]( America and Other Myths Robert Frank and Todd Webb In 1955 two photographers were awarded grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation to embark on trips across the United States. Robert Frank (1924–2019) drove coast to coast, photographing the highways, bars, and people that formed the basis for his widely admired publication The Americans (1958). Todd Webb (1905–2000) walked across the country, searching for “vanishing Americana and what is taking its place.” Unaware of each other’s work, the photographers produced strikingly similar images of the highway, parades, and dim, smoky barrooms. This revelatory book is the first to publish Webb’s 1955 photographs and connects these parallel projects for the first time. [Order America and Other Myths or read more]( Erased Bertrand Meunier Bertrand Meunier's first monograph is the culmination of a long-term project in China, which began with the Erased series in 1998, focusing on changes in the Chinese peasant and industrial world, followed by REC on the society of excessive surveillance and recent protests in Hong Kong in 2019. Meunier's documentary approach is far removed from current events, and focuses on sociological analysis where information is often outside the frame. [Order Erased or read more]( In Our Hands Native Photography, 1890s to Now Photographs of and by Native people have long been exhibited in museums. All too often, however, such exhibitions have misrepresented vital cultural and historical contexts, neglecting the depth of practice, supporting scholarship, and Native perspectives relevant to the work. By developing a broadly representative curatorial council of prominent academics and artists, more than half of whom represent Native communities in the United States and Canada, this book significantly expands the traditional discourses of photographic history. [Order In Our Hands or read more]( BOOK REVIEW --------------------------------------------------------------- Current Condition Nina Strand Reviewed by Meggan Gould "Last year, reviewing Re’gis de Gasperi’s Box of Illusions, I delighted in a minor coincidence: a forty-six-year-old-me looking at a book by a forty-six-year-old artist contemplating the particularities of his age. One year later, I pick up Nina Strand’s Current Condition, and I flinch: now I find a forty-seven-year-old-me looking at the work of a forty-seven-year-old artist also contemplating the particularities of our shared age. Perhaps photo-eye needs to stop suggesting such irritatingly age-appropriate books to review..." — Meggan Gould [Read the full review]( [Order copies of Current Condition]( RECENTLY FEATURED --------------------------------------------------------------- Unseen Colour Werner Bischof Gandras Land of the White Stork Jasper Walter Bastian SALE — 20% Off!
