Chaco Terada's work on Display + New Work by Maggie Taylor + Guggenheim Fellow recipient Tony Chirinos + Santa Fe Workshops & Anne Kelly [CHACO TERADA]( [Currently On Display]( [photo-eye Gallery]( is delighted to present a selection of new works by gallery artist [Chaco Terada]( Teradaâs photographs utilize multiple layers of opaque silk and often incorporate calligraphic brushstrokes using traditional Japanese inks. Her prints literally hold light and space within the picture. Quiet and contemplative, the image changes ever so slightly as you move around it, reacting in space and allowing the zen imagery to fall and flutter as if in the air or on water. [Chaco Terada, Sounds of Silhouette, 2023, Sumi & Pigment Ink on Silk, 10 x 7.5â³, Unique Print, $1800]( âMy calligraphy is influenced by life experiences. When I create a brushstroke I think of the motion of water in a stream or the movement of a breeze. My lines do not create a word in the traditional sense, they interpret the meaning or mood that I feel the word represents. Before I depict the character of the word autumn, I would meditate on an autumn scene, and let the details that come to my mind direct my hand."

His first monograph, [The Precipice]( was published in 2021 by Gnomic Book in Portland, OR, and is comprised of over a decade's worth of imagery made in operating rooms and morgues around the country. photo-eye Gallery is thrilled to introduce one of three chapters from The Precipice as a full portfolio! Follow the link below for an interview with the artist. [Tony Chirinos | BLOG POST]( [The Precipice]( is the summation of nearly two decades spent working as a biomedical photographer in Miami. Chirinos threads the needle between the sometimes delicate, often brutal world of surgical intervention. The book is separated into three main bodies: surgical photographs of living subjects; vibrant typologies of exquisitely photographed tools; and the journey to the afterlife. The Precipice draws back the curtain to a world that most of us never see, where human fragility and resilience coexist in an uneasy equilibrium. Featuring essays by Michelle Otero and Eugenie Shinkle, and a poem by Claudia Isidron, The Precipice is simultaneously lyrical and bleak, a celebration of life and an unflinching observation of what follows. This book is signed by the artist. [Purchase Book]( [ON COLLECTING]( [A Conversation with Anne Kelly & Michael Rubin]( On Collecting with Anne Kelly and Michael Rubin

Location: Online / Zoom [Santa Fe Workshops]( is featuring a special evening with photo-eye Gallery Director, Anne Kelly and the director of The Rubin Collection, Michael Rubin. Together Anne and Rubin will explore topics relating to collecting photography and collecting in general.
As a concept, collecting refers to acquiring and organizing items of a particular type, such as stamps, coins, photographs, or any object of interest. Collecting can be a rewarding and satisfying pastime that allows people to express their creativity and passion for a particular subject. The aspects of collecting photography are a predominant focus in Anneâs and Rubinâs day-to-day lives. As a gallery director, Anne manages the galleryâs collection, helps others build and maintain their collections, curates exhibitions, and promotes an artist the gallery represents. Rubin, a lifelong collector, worked with his father on The Rubin Collection, concurrent with being a photographer himself. Today he maintains the collection and shares it with othersâ most recently with classes at Santa Fe Workshops. Click below to register for this free event!
