[The Santa Fe Reporter]( spoke with [Carl]( and [Patricia]( about the project in the article [Shoot to Help](. [NEW BOOK BY PHOTOGRAPHER'S SHOWCASE ARTIST]( [WENDEL WHITE]( [Photographer's Showcase]( artist [Wendel White]( has explored African American Culture through his photography for more than thirty years. In his new book, [Schools for the Colored]( White describes the series as an "extension of the photographic project Small Towns, Black Lives, in that, it is a continuation of my journey through the African-American landscape. I began making photographs of historically African-American school buildings during the first days of the Small Towns, Black Lives project more than thirty years ago. In Schools for the Colored, I began to pay attention to the many structures and sites that operated as a network of segregated schools in the northern United States. The architecture and geography of America’s educational Apartheid, in the form of a system of 'colored schools,' within the landscape of southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois is the central concern of this project." This project revisits a time before Brown vs. Board of Education, when schools were fully segregated. [Pre-Order "Schools for the Colored"]( [View More Work by Wendel A.
