Transcend through the dramatic effects of light, atmosphere and color found in [Sky & Water]( where celestial clouds reflected off bodies of water obscure the line between heaven and earth, evoking the sublime qualities found in the landscape paintings from the Romantic era. Explore wetlands from the south in [Ghostlight]( where giant trees shrouded in Spanish moss rest within what the artist calls "dark waters." ARTIST]( [WENDEL WHITE]( [Photographer's Showcase]( artist [Wendel White]( has explored African American Culture through his photography for more than thirty years. In his new book, [Schools for the Colored]( White describes the series as an "extension of the photographic project Small Towns, Black Lives, in that, it is a continuation of my journey through the African-American landscape. I began making photographs of historically African-American school buildings during the first days of the Small Towns, Black Lives project more than thirty years ago. In Schools for the Colored, I began to pay attention to the many structures and sites that operated as a network of segregated schools in the northern United States. The architecture and geography of Americaâs educational Apartheid, in the form of a system of 'colored schools,' within the landscape of southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois is the central concern of this project." This project revisits a time before Brown vs. Board of Education, when schools were fully segregated. [Pre-Order "Schools for the Colored"]( [View More Work by Wendel A.
