[Julie Blackmon, Tall Girl, 2021, archival pigment print, 29" x 22," edition of 10, $4000]( photo-eye Gallery is pleased to announce a new image by Julie Blackmon. Julie Blackmon's orchestrated narratives walk a darkly humorous line between lightheartedness and the complexities of everyday living. Inspired by 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings of domestic life, her satirical imagery speaks to the contradictions of our uncertain times and the murkiness of parental expectations. [Tall Girl]( is part of an ongoing series that spans over a decade. See the links below to view more photographs from this series or learn more about Blackmon's work. My goal was to capture the mythical in the ordinary, and I gradually began introducing narrative strands into the photos, hoping to create visual fables that reflected deeper truths. I wanted to explore and critique the way we live today, so there have always been snakes lurking in the backyard gardens of my imagination — someone once told me that my work was one part Norman Rockwell and one part Norman Bates." — Julie Blackmon Julie Blackmon [Zoë Zimmerman, Biologique, 2003, albumen print, 5" x 4," edition of 24, $600]( Over the past few months, we have been going through our collection and sharing some of our favorite photographs by the many great artists we represent. For this week's installment of "From the Flat Files," we select Zoë Zimmerman's work. A master printer, Zoë Zimmerman has expanded on the capabilities of traditional albumen print techniques of the 19th century by using her own recipe and methods. The delicateness and clarity of detail in prints like [Biologique]( have yet to be surpassed by advances in photographic technology. Furthermore, Zoë Zimmerman's luminous and elegant images of familiar objects arranged in an unusual way — like [Biologique]( — teach us to see what we take for granted and think we know well in a different light.
