SPONSOR CONTENT | Amazon Business [The Nonprofit Guide to Sustainable Sourcing]( Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online New Yorkâs 92nd Street Y is at odds with many in its own intellectual and cultural community after rejecting criticism of Israelâs lethal response to the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks. The estrangement began when the nonprofit, an âexplicitly Zionistâ organization with strong ties to Israel, canceled an appearance by Pulitzer Prizeâwinning novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen, who had signed an open letter decrying the Israeli militaryâs actions in Gaza as crimes against humanity without any specific reference to Hamas. Since the cancelation, other writers have vowed to boycott cultural events hosted by 92NY, as the nonprofit is called, while 92NYâs leaders vow to continue to support Israel through what they call the Jewish peopleâs 9/11. Some of the OpenAI board members who voted to oust Altman â who has since been reinstated â are adherents of the well-financed movement, which is concerned with the long-term safety of A.I. and its potential to wreak global catastrophe. In tension with their go-slow approach to the technologyâs development stand investors seeking a return, as well as developers and scientists who are more focused on short-term problems, such as the impact A.I. will have in next yearâs presidential election.
