SPONSOR CONTENT | CCS Fundraising [CCS Examines Philanthropic Trends Amid Steady Giving in Eleventh-Edition Report]( Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online One of the countryâs leading voices for tighter gun laws is stepping down from the nonprofit she helped turn into a âpolitical juggernaut.â Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, said the passage last summer of the first major federal gun-related legislation in 30 years helped her decide to retire. Spurred by Congressâs failure to pass gun legislation in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting a decade ago, Watts started Moms Demand Action after finding no such women-led groups to join. A stay-at-home mother, she targeted the National Rifle Association directly, consulting with leaders of other successful grassroots movements and partnering with former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Moms Demand Action now has chapters in every state, counts tens of thousands of volunteers, and has sent at least one of its own to Congress. Watts, 52, will leave later this year, allowing months for the transition and âto raise the profile of others who can help fill the void sheâll leave behind.â ([Washington Post]( More News and Opinion - The Intercept Magazine Announces Restructuring as Independent Nonprofit Organization ([Intercept](
