Philanthropist Ty Warner said profits from March sales of Ty Inc.'s Beanie Babies will go to Save the Children’s emergency aid efforts; the Phillips art auction house will donate its $7.7 million take from a March 3 sale to Ukraine’s Red Cross Society; chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen is serving hot meals to Ukrainians fleeing over the border to neighboring countries and helping restaurants in Ukraine to provide meals as well; and the Genesis Philanthropy Group — co-founded by billionaires Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven, and German Khan, two of whom are now under sanctions — is giving $10 million to Jews affected by the war. ([Barron’s]( As part of a new deal aimed at settling thousands of lawsuits over the opioid crisis, the Sackler family has agreed to let institutions that took its name in exchange for donations remove the name without penalty. The family, which owns OxyContin-maker Purdue Pharma, would pay up to $6 billion to communities affected by the crisis in litigation brought by attorneys general from nine states and Washington, D.C. The proposed settlement allows “any institution or organization in the United States to remove the Sackler name from physical facilities and academic, medical, and cultural programs, scholarships, endowments, and the like.” The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and London’s Serpentine Sackler Gallery did so last year. The institutions must give the family 45 days’ notice and not disparage the Sackler name. The settlement still must be confirmed by a bankruptcy judge and approved by a federal appeals court. It does not shield the family or Purdue from criminal charges. ([Artnet News]( The Clinton Foundation will relaunch its Global Initiative in September, six years after suspending it during Hillary Clinton’s run for president. In a letter to supporters, Bill Clinton said the organization is resurrecting the summit to address pressing needs, including climate change, the pandemic, and attacks on democracy around the world. It will be held in New York City to coincide with the U.N. General Assembly gathering.
