New York University will take the Sackler name off a biomedical institute housed within its Langone medical center. The removal comes after the U.S. Justice Department reached a settlement with Purdue Pharma, owned by the Sackler family, over its marketing of the opioid painkiller OxyContin. Purdue will [plead guilty]( to charges related to fraud and conspiracy and pay $8 billion in penalties. NYU's decision to drop the Sackler association follows similar moves by museums and universities that either removed the family's name or stopped accepting the Sacklers' donations. Yale's endowment chief pushes investment managers to hire more women and people of color. David Swensen, who has drawn wide praise for his investment successes, warned the firms that manage Yale's money that if they didn't make progress on diversity, they might lose business from the $31.2 billion endowment. He said his office will measure progress annually, and he pledged to work on the diversity of the people who work in his office, too. Because of Swensen's stature, the newspaper said, his move is likely to prompt other nonprofit endowments to focus more on the diversity of their money managers.
