On first observation, the obvious similarity is that both beans are absolutely tiny. This indicates that we’re looking at relatively quick roasts. However, whereas the Yemeni Moka is a flat bean, the Batak is a peaberry, rounder and denser, which typically takes a little longer to roast. Both coffees have vibrant, lively aromas—the Moka, sweet and fruity with classic fig-date notes, and the Batak with its impression of teak, fresh vegetation, and spice.
