Hi Friend, Ă‚ I was raised that you never, ever hit a girl. And having 4 daughters, I made sure any boy they went out with knew I was willing to go to jail if they ever laid a hand on any of them.
And my stance almost got me killed.
You see, 20-years ago, my family was at a “thanksgiving camp” where there was a small lake. On Saturday, we were rounding up the family to leave and couldn’t find a couple of the kids. Then all of a sudden, through the trees, we could hear screaming from the middle of the lake, and then saw a wave of people running towards the lake.
Naturally, I took off running towards the lake as well.
What happened was that it was a windy day and two teenagers decided to take a canoe out on the lake, and it capsized. Neither had life jackets on.
Long story short, I ran into the lake shedding my shirt and jacket and began swimming about 100 yards toward the teenage girl. I was not prepared for the shock of the cold water on my body, or the fact that my jeans had soaked up a ton of water and made it extremely hard to swim.
Nonetheless, I could see the girl’s head bobbing in and out of the water so there was enough adrenalin pumping to get me to her.
And then a strange thing happened. She had been having trouble keeping herself above water, but when I go to within about 5 feet of her, someway, somehow, she literally lept out of the water and onto my head, wrapping both arms around my head.
As hard as I had tried, I could not get her off and was desperately now trying to keep both of us above water.
I remember in boy scouts…if you go to rescue someone drowning, you better hit them and knock’em out. And I just could not bring myself to do it.
And then I sank.
I was spent. I had no energy left, and as I sank, the girl let go, used my shoulders to keep her up, and pushed me down. I temporarily blacked out (but did not completely lose consciousness). The next thing I knew, my feet hit the bottom and I had just enough strength to push off the bottom and reach the top…thankfully, by that time someone had made it into a motorboat to rescue all of us.
Every Thanksgiving the story comes to my mind. And every Thanksgiving I am reminded to keep things in proper perspective.
In the grand scheme of things, trading is really not that important.
And truth be told, I actually trade better because of that perspective.
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year, and I hope my story will encourage you to keep your trading in proper perspective.
Blessings.
Ryan Jones
P.s. One of the great things about lifetime access to trading tools is that you can keep things in perspective and take a week off, or a month off from trading to spend on more important things, and you don’t have to worry about paying a monthly subscription for what you aren’t temporarily using. This is why every Thanksgiving I offer Lifetime Access to all 3 of my trading tools at a huge discount.
