Will suggested that both candidates would emerge from the primary weaker, with Trump being "as stale as a month-old crust of sourdough," and DeSantis likened to Fordâs short-lived Edsel car brand. Will criticized Trump for repeating themes and arguments from his 2020 run and for his recent attacks on Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. He also took issue with Trump's indication that he might skip GOP primary debates. As for DeSantis, Will suggested that his appeal was limited, saying, "DeSantis is running hard to be president of Iowa, or of that minority of Iowans who will vote in the January caucuses and think Trump is ideologically squishy." Despite his criticisms, Will acknowledged that Trump has been leading in the polls, with nearly 50 percent support on average, while DeSantis has about 21 percent.
