When CNN's Jim Acosta-yes, that Jim Acosta, the same one who made a name for himself sparring with Trump-starts grilling a Democrat's spokesman, you know things are getting dicey. Enter Michael Tyler, the brave (or should we say unfortunate?) spokesman for Vice President [Kamala Harris](, who tried his best to defend Harris's Houdini act on the campaign trail. Spoiler alert: it didn't go well. So, here's the scene. Harris, who's been as elusive as a unicorn at a kid's birthday party, has been avoiding the press like it's a plague. Instead of taking questions, she's been sticking to carefully scripted rallies and the safe confines of her teleprompter. And what does Tyler do when Acosta starts asking the obvious? He spins faster than a washing machine on turbo. Acosta, clearly not in the mood for Tyler's tap-dancing, didn't waste any time calling out the VP's "busy crisscrossing" excuse. After all, the campaign trail is supposed to be where the rubber meets the road, not where you duck the press. And what does Tyler offer? A vague promise of a sit-down interview "before the end of the month." Yeah, because one interview in a month is really going to cut it, right? Acosta wasn't having it. He tried to pin Tyler down on whether Harris would hold a press conference this week. The answer? More spin. Tyler was all about "engaging with voters," which sounds great-if voters weren't also interested in how their VP handles tough questions, unscripted. But apparently, keeping the press at arm's length is now a campaign strategy. Here's the thing: Harris's advisors have every reason to be nervous. Let's not forget her infamous "coconut tree" comment or the time she reassured us that Biden is "very much alive." These are the kind of gems that have made even her allies cringe and conservatives laugh out loud. With a track record like that, it's no wonder they're keeping her under wraps. So, while Harris's team continues to tiptoe around unscripted moments, it's becoming clear that they're more concerned about keeping her from going off the rails than they are about actually engaging with the media.
